Xiao

Among the various types of flutes Xiao is vertical end blown flute, usually dark brown in color. Xiao is believed to have its origin from ancient China during the period of Ming dynasty. They were originally known as DONGXIAO. The length of the Xiao varies from 45cm to 1.25 cm. If the instrument is shorter playing will be difficult since it makes the controlling of our breath tougher. Xiao is originally designed for the scales of G, F. The additional notes in the instrument help the player to play the natural notes. Qinxiao and Nanxiao are the basic two types which differ in construction.
